Berrigan Shire Scholarships

Berrigan Shire Council offers two scholarships to help students from the local area to attend university.

Berrigan Shire Council Accommodation Scholarship

The Berrigan Shire Council Accommodation Scholarship is open to students from Berrigan Shire that are planning to or are enrolled in any undergraduate degree at Charles Sturt University Wagga Wagga.

The scholarship is offered annually, with the selected student receiving a portion of rent component of their accommodation in the Berrigan Shire Room of the Wagga Wagga Campus Residential Cottages for both semesters (value $1,500). To be eligible applicants must:

  • Be studying any undergraduate degree, full-tme at the CSU Wagga Wagga Campus.
  • Have an ongoing and longstanding residential association with the Berrigan Shire area.
  • Possess a sound academic performance record.
  • Demonstrate personal accomplishment and qualities.
  • Demonstrate the capacity to be a good ambassador for the Berrigan Shire Council area.

Application forms are available from this link and this link. To complete and lodge the application please follow the instructions provided by CSU. Applications for the 2009 scholarship close on 27 October 2008 for existing students and 12 December 2008 for students planning to commence studies at CSU in 2009.


Berrigan Shire Local Government Scholarship

The Berrigan Shire Local Government Scholarship is offered biennially to a student from Berrigan Shire undertaking tertiary studies in fields of recognised skills shortages within Local Government including civil and environmental engineering, urban planning, health and building surveying, finance and accounting, and other areas that may assist with the Council's operations.

The scholarship is open to commencing and continuing students, with the successful candidate receiving paid holiday employment with the Council, reimbursement of text book costs, full-time employment with the Council following graduation, and the repayment of deferred course fees.

The Berrigan Shire Local Government Scholarship will close 12 December 2008. The Council also offers work experience placements and holiday employment to suitable candidates expressing an interest in a career in local government, and interested students are encouraged to contact the Council.

Scholarship Recipients

In 2008 Luke Brooks was awarded the Berrigan Shire Council Accommodation Scholarship. Luke is undertaking the first year of a Bachelor of Education degree (Primary) at CSU Wagga Wagga Campus.

The recipient of the inaugural Berrigan Shire Local Government Scholarship is Shayla Razga. Shayla, who is from Barooga, is undertaking a Bachelor of Public Health - Environmental Health at La Trobe University in Bendigo. As part of the scholarship Shayla has holiday employment with the Council as a Trainee Environmental Health Officer.
